Greetings, fellow ICDA members:
Welcome to the Music In Worship Repertoire and Resources web page. I am pleased to offer support to you as R&R chair for Music in Worship. As I get acclimated and offer resources, please feel free to direct specific questions and I'll be happy to help.
It occurs to me that most worship musicians, especially in Iowa, are serve in less-than full-time capacities, so helpful resources are incredible important, both for music as well as liturgy.

Since September 2017, Chris serves as Director of Music and Fine Arts at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, Des Moines, where he oversees a large music and fine arts department and plans worship with the clergy team. The music department includes 30+ full and part-time staff who lead the many constituent ensembles.
A native of East Tennessee and cradle Methodist until moving to Plymouth, Chris has been involved in leading church music and worship since age 15. Chris was active in music ministry in the Knoxville area for over a decade before moving to Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica (2012-2017), located on St. Simons Island, Georgia. At Wesley, he was responsible for the Chancel Choir, Women’s Chorale, Men’s Ensemble, Wesley Ringers, Golden Isles Community Chorus, Messiah Chorus, and Coastal Brass Choir. Additionally, Chris actively supported and participated in other community music ensembles.
A clarinet player, Chris holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education—Wind/Percussion (cum laude) and Master of Music in Choral Conducting, both from University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Currently, Chris is a candidate in the Doctor of Worship Studies program at the Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies in Jacksonville, Florida.
While at UTK, Chris played in the “Pride of the Southland” Marching Band, the Symphonic Band, the Wind Ensemble, and sang in the UT Chamber Singers, Concert Choir and Men’s Chorale. Additionally, Chris spent three years (two as a conductor) participating in DCI’s Drum & Bugle Corps.
When not making music, Chris enjoys cooking, tennis, reading, and exploring his new home city—Des Moines! He lives downtown with his three cats: Louis, Sam, and Miss Kitty.
Plymouth Church's Music and Fine Arts Program
Plymouth Church offers life-long music opportunities, including a graded Pre-K through Grade 12 music program, which includes a Pre-K Music Makers class and individual choirs for Kindergarten and grades 1, 2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, and 9-12. The high school choir, the Matins Choir, regularly maintains an enrollment of 70+ participants. Additionally, handchime and handbell choirs are offered for grades 4-6, 7-12, and adults.
Adult choral offerings include the 80-member Chancel Choir and a chamber choir, the Chancel Chorale. Other ensembles include seasonal choirs for Summer, Men, Women, and an Instrumental Ensemble. Additionally, Plymouth Church proudly serves as a rehearsal home for the Des Moines Choral Society, Des Moines Vocal Arts Ensemble, and Des Moines Gay Men’s Chorus. Further, Plymouth regularly supports community music and arts by hosting events such as the Heartland Youth Choir “Meet the Composer” Festival.
