Iowa Honors Initiative

ICDA Honors Initiative

ICDA is proud to announce the adoption of a series of honors and recognitions which will better serve our richly talented, diverse membership.  The purpose of the initiative is to honor work being done in every arena by our dedicated members and supporters.  ICDA is committed to celebrating the honorees, not only in our organization, but in their communities, our state, and the nation.  We aim to raise them up, demonstrating that they are seen and deeply appreciated.

Nominee Attributes

We offer a list to help guide the nomination process.  No one person will exhibit all of the characteristics below, and this list is certainly not conclusive;  merely designed to spark the imagination of members as they nominate deserving candidates. 

•   Professionalism

•   Musicianship

•   Service to ICDA

•   Service to other professional music organizations (MENC, ISEA, NATS, etc)

•   Festival/Convention Concert Appearances

•   Guest Conducting Festivals

•   Clinician, Convention Presenter, Author, Article Contributor, Composer, Arranger

•   Impactful Program Growth

•   Student/Member Rapport

•   Increased Program Visibility

•   Increased Community or Church Involvement

•   Increased Music Literacy

•   Improvement in Program Quality

•   Enthusiasm, Energy, Collegiality

Outstanding Emerging Choral Educator

Established in 2022, this award recognizes individuals with fewer than 5 years of teaching experience.  

Criteria:  Candidate must be a current ICDA member who exhibits great promise as a developing choral educator.  The nominee may have positively impacted program size, program quality, and visibility of the program.  Enthusiasm and ICDA participation are key considerations.

Outstanding Choral Educator
Elementary/Middle School

Established in 2022, this award recognizes individuals whose work in programs at the developmental level is exemplary.

Criteria:  Candidate must be a current ICDA member with a  minimum of 5 years of experience.  Work at the elementary/middle school level must exhibit the characteristics of a master teacher.  Nominees who have positively impacted size, quality, involvement, musical knowledge, and program visibility will be given strong consideration.  This person will be an active presence in the life of ICDA and its membership.

Outstanding Choral Educator
High School/Post Secondary

Established in 2022, this award recognizes individuals whose work in programs at the experienced and advanced level is exemplary.

Criteria:  Candidate must be a current ICDA member with a minimum of 5 years experience.  Work at the High School/Post Secondary level must exhibit the qualities of a master teacher.  Nominees who have fostered program growth, high performance standards, musical knowledge, community engagement, and who are committed to mentoring those planning careers in music will be given strong consideration.  This person will be an active presence in the life of ICDA and its membership.

Outstanding Church/Community Choral Educator

Established in 2022, this award recognizes individuals whose contributions to the choral art are exemplary.  Honorees may come from the church, community, children’s, youth, barbershop, professional, or semi-professional choral arenas.

Criteria:  Candidate must be a current ICDA member whose work has demonstrated musical excellence, church/community engagement, program growth, and a spirit of service through participation in ICDA.

Outstanding Choral Advocate

Established in 2022, this award recognizes individuals who have supported the advancement of choral music in our schools, churches, and communities.  Honorees may be administrators, boosters, community organizations/leaders, workers, patrons, philanthropists, etc.  Our aim is to celebrate the efforts of our dedicated supporters whose work sustains choral activities in Iowa.

Criteria:  Candidates have demonstrated dedication to choral programs in a school, church, or community.  Leadership, labor, monetary support, and legislative support will be strongly considered.  ICDA is thrilled to raise up these without whom we simply could not exist.

Outstanding ICDA District Choral Educator

Established in 2022, this award recognizes an ICDA member from within each District.  Honorees can be chosen from any area of choral expertise and service.

Criteria:  Candidate must be a current ICDA member who exhibits enthusiasm and leadership skills;  eager to advance the choral activities within the District.  Our aim is to honor the service and sense of mission that is key to the grass roots success of ICDA.

Selection of Recipients

The ICDA Board (Elected) will select the following recipients at the April Board Meeting:

  • Outstanding Emerging Choral Educator

  • Outstanding Choral Educator (Elementary/Middle School)

  • Outstanding Choral Educator (High School/Post Secondary)

  • Outstanding Church/Community Choral Educator

  • Outstanding Choral Advocate

 

The Outstanding District Choral Educator will be voted on by district members in early May
