Welcome to the Men's R&S webpage! I am honored to serve as the Men's Choir R&S chair for ICDA, as I have a passion for directing men's literature and coaching the developing male voice. As directors, we understand that generating excitement for singing among our young men is especially crucial to the overall success of our vocal music departments - and choosing exciting and engaging literature is key!

Please check out the list of songs at the bottom of my webpage. You will find a detailed list of discovered and undiscovered men's choir selections for both middle school and high school male singers. There are styles for all occasions: sea chanty, foreign language, multicultural, Broadway/popular, barbershop, and many more! I will continue to add new literature suggestions to this list over the course of the next year.

Ryan Person
Men's Choirs R&S Chair

Ryan Person is director of vocal music at Iowa City West High School in Iowa City. Prior to teaching at West High, Ryan taught high school vocal music at Okoboji High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Luther College in 2005, where he was president of the Nordic Choir.

At West High, Ryan directs the Concert Choir, an eighty-five member mixed ensemble consisting of select 11th and 12th grade students, and Bass Choir, consisting of all 9th and 10th grade men in the vocal music department. In addition, he directs The Good Time Company show choir, teaches private voice lessons, and music theory.

Ryan is an active member of ICDA. Along with serving as the Men's R&S chair, he is co-chair for the ICDA/IBA 2008 Fall Symposium and has served as chair of the Northwest Iowa High School Honor Choir. Ryan is also a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, a national men's organization committed to promoting singing among our youth. He was previously a director of the Algona Cornbelt Chorus, a men's barbershop group consisting of men of all ages.

He has a wife, Abby, who is a kindergarten teacher at Roosevelt Elementary in Iowa City. Together, they have a daughter named Julia.
