As I sit in my office with a terrible cold looking for something productive to do, Shelly and I compiled a list of "winners" for MS groups. Hopefully these can be of use to teachers in all sizes of schools. Unless otherwise noted, they are in 3 part voicings. Here are a few suggestions in several "categories"...
CLASSICAL/UPBEAT STYLE:
SONGS WITH A GREAT LYRIC LINE:
SPIRITUAL/FUN SONGS:
PATRIOTIC/MULTICULTURAL/FOLK SONGS:
GENERAL NAMES TO LOOK FOR:
I have found a lot of appropriate songs for our students by Mary Lynn Lightfoot, Jerry Estes, Donald Moore, John Leavitt, Z Randall Stroope, and some things by Jay Althouse, Roger Emerson, Carl Strommen, and Dave and Jean Perry. When you find a classical song arranged by either Patrick Liebergen or Hal Hopson, it usually works well. There are obviously many good writers and arrangers out there, but I always give a song a good look when I see that is has one of these names on it.
