This arrangement of an African-American spiritual was commissioned by the North Carolina Music Educators Association and was premiered in November, 2005 at a NCMEA convention.  Although it was commissioned for a middle school honor choir, it will prove worth of an average high school mixed or treble (there is an SSA voicing) choir.  It is published as part of the Henry Leck Choral Series (HL).

The arrangement opens with a strong majestic choral introduction, followed by a syncopated piano interlude, which is then taken up by the basses.  Throughout the piece, the melody permeates various voice parts.  The mostly homophonic texture starts simply, but is developed and expanded through a couple of ascending modulations and the use of divisii parts (in the treble only) over a wonderfully rich and rhythmically interesting accompaniment.

This vibrant piece would make a great festival or concert closer and will receive accolades from both singers and audience
