R&S: Community Choirs

hoifeldt

Welcome to the Community Choirs page.  If you direct a community choir or know someone who does, I’d appreciate hearing from you.  We have quite a few community groups around Iowa meeting a wide range of musical needs, but many of us are not connected to each other for one reason or another.

I hope to add some links and other information to this site and look forward to hearing about and posting information about what you are doing in terms of performances and repertoire.

Steven Hoifeldt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal performance from Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Iowa.  He directs the Ames Choral Society, a community choir founded in 1964 and Good Company:  A Women's Choral Ensemble, Inc., of which he is the founding director.  He has also worked with the Bethesda and St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church choirs in Ames, the Ametones Barbershop Chorus, Ames Community Theater (ACTORS), the Des Moines Vocal Arts Ensemble, and with vocal music students at Ballard High School, Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa Central Community College and Drake University.  He currently gives individual voice lessons at his private studio in Ames and at the Boone campus of Des Moines Area Community College, where he also teaches Music Appreciation and leads the newly formed Concert Choir.  He lives in Ames with his wife Laurie, son Jens and their Great Pyrenees dog Nick.
