Sean Burton

I am honored to serve ICDA as R&S Chair for Four-Year Colleges and Universities from 2013-2015.  One of the most exciting aspects of the college/university repertory concerns its versatility.  The repertoire spans all eras of the Western Classical tradition (and beyond), includes myriad voicing and accompaniment options, and a wealth of poetic-linguistic considerations abound.  The sum of these three parts alone yields virtually unlimited opportunities for choral artistry.  In my opinion, this is our greatest charge.

Individuals with far more experience than I have suggested the system of degrees ideal in our current education system promotes a lack of originality.  It's not for me to say whether the generalization is accurate; however I am certain that we as collegiate instructors are duty-bound to model best practices in every way but most especially as arbiters of taste when it comes to repertoire selection.

Please do not hesitate to e-mail me at sean.burton@briarcliff.edu if I can be of service and thank you for your engagement!
