Timothy A. McMillin is Director of Choral Activities at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, where he directs three choral ensembles, is on the voice faculty, and teaches classes in conducting, music history, and choral studies. Before his appointment at Simpson College, Mr. McMillin directed choirs in Minnesota for six years where he created and lead award-winning high school programs.
Mr. McMillin holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Simpson College and a Master of Arts degree in Music Education with a choral emphasis from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He completed all course work for the DMA in Choral Conducting at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan, and is finishing his research and writing this year.
In addition to his work in academia, Mr. McMillin is the Artistic Director of the Des Moines Vocal Arts Ensemble, a community organization committed to excellence in choral performance. He is also the Director of Music at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in West Des Moines, IA.
Mr. McMillin performed with, served as chorus master and was a member of the stage management staff with the Des Moines Metro Opera, various high schools and numerous community theatre organizations. Mr. McMillin’s choral experience took him to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he served as Producer and Company Manager for the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, a professional choir. He is also active as a choral clinician and adjudicator around the Midwest.
His professional affiliations include ACDA , where he currently serves as Repertoire & Standards Chair for Four-Year Colleges and Universities for the Iowa Chapter (ICDA), MENC, NCCO, CMS and NATS.
