E-mail Lists

How to Subscribe to a List

In addition to the on-line forums, ICDA offers a way to stay current on the latest discussions via e-mail. Simply subscribe to the list or lists of your choice and voilá!... you're on! Here is the procedure for signing up for a list:

In the mail program of your choice (and from whichever e-mail account of your choice), send an e-mail to majordomo@iowachoral.org with the following information in the body of the message:
subscribe list-name, or
unsubscribe list-name

The e-mail lists available are as follows:

General Lists
everyone Distribution list* for all members of ICDA; used to send general announcements to everyone by the executive board only

District Lists
northwest Discussion list* for the northwest district

* Note that all lists are "discussion lists" only, except where marked. Discussion lists may only be posted to by members of the list; any attempt to send an e-mail to the group by a non-member will result in that e-mail being bounced. Distribution lists are for general announcements, not for discussions.

So, as an example, pretend Josephine (who is new to our state) just got the choral job at Waving Grass HS (which is located in the northeast district) and she wants to sign up for a few e-mail lists. She would open up her e-mail program (or web client... however she can get to her e-mail), and using the account she wanted to receive mail at, she would compose a new message to majordomo@iowachoral.org that had the following in the body:
subscribe everyone
subscribe highschool
subscribe northeast

Josephine would receive a confirmation e-mail that assured her of being on the list. Josephine could then rest easy knowing that all was well in Waving Grass, Iowa... for now...

How to Compose an E-mail to a List

For any group listed above, an email may be crafted by appending "@iowachoral.org" to the name. You may write to any discussion list (see the red note above) of which you are a member.

So, using our earlier example, pretend Josephine has a question about the best way to teach solfége to her freshman choir. She could send an e-mail to highschool@iowachoral.org stating her question, and then wait to see if her colleagues could help her.
