- ICDA SUMMER SYMPOSIUM 2018 - JULY 23-26, 2018
- CENTRAL COLLEGE
- Pella, IA
SPECTRUM: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow
Hosted by Sarah J. Bouska firstname.lastname@example.org
The 2018 Summer Symposium will honor, encourage, and inspire our ICDA membership.
The ALL-STATE JAZZ CHOIR will perform Monday evening under the direction of DAVID VON KAMPEN followed by an unbelievable concert by MANDY HARVEY.
MANDY HARVEY was a finalist on the 2017 edition of America's Got Talent and Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer Winner. Mandy Harvey is a deaf American singer-songwriter. A Vocal Music Education major at Colorado State University, Mandy lost her residual hearing in 2006-2007 at age eighteen due to a connective tissue disorder, and left the program. She pursued several career options, including education, but returned to music in 2008. Her message is universal...Hope, Believe, Dream...no matter what. As an Ambassador for No Barriers USA, she travels the country to heighten awareness, break down blocks, challenge stereotypes, and lead the charge toward a brighter future for all.
Special performances by the BEL CANTO CEDAR VALLEY CHORAL ENSEMBLE, composers TIM TAKACH and JOCELYN HAGEN together form the group NATION, and THE ROSE ENSEMBLE under the direction of JORDAN SRAMEK will all be on stage at the newly renovated Douwstra Auditorium at Central College.
Iowa's own DR. SHARON HANSEN (1992 ICDA Summer Symposium Chair) will be returning to direct the RETIRED CHOIR and present some of her own sessions. DRS. TIM and SANDRA PETER from Stetson University in Florida will also be returning to Iowa!
JILL TRINKA, Ph.D., is well known by children, parents, and music educators as "a dynamic, winsome, and energetic teacher and performer." Dr. Trinka has taught in Kodály teacher education programs throughout the United States, and served as director of the Kodály Institute of Texas at the University of North Texas, the Kodály Certificate Program at Portland State University in Portland, OR, and the Kodály Institute at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. Jill was a contributing author to Pearson/Scott Foresman/Silver Burdett’s Making Music, Grades 5-8.
On Wednesday, the Worship Service and Worship Choir will be lead by TOM TRENNEY of Lincoln, Nebraska. Summer Symposium participants will have the opportunity to be involved in the Worship Choir along with many other demonstration and Director Ensembles.
Our week will be full of our well-known reading sessions, OPUS information and the 2018 ALL-STATE Reading Session with the 2018 All-State Director. There are many more exciting announcements to come! I look forward to celebrating the many "Spectrums" of ICDA with you in 2018!
